Do you ever feel like you're going it alone?

Studio 12 Design Blog-Of Life and Creativity-Sarah Ek Muse- Jeweler- Designer-Metalsmith

Are you creating by yourself in your studio or office and
doing all the tasks needed to run your business on a daily basis?

Many creative entrepreneurs struggle with this, especially when we are the makers, the marketers, the bookkeepers, the managers, everything all by ourselves in our business endeavors. I know I certainly have!

I’ve also been extremely fortunate to meet and learn from some incredible professional artists and artisans over the years, and in the last two years with the re-birth of my own business, I’ve met some amazing jewelry makers and designers from all over the world who have become an amazing virtual support system.

Even if they don’t know it they have inspired and lifted me up when I felt like I might be in over my head. Their personal encouragement and knowledge has kept me upbeat and focused on my business goals.

I mean really, restarting my biz at age 49, what was I thinking?

 I was thinking this:

I love making  jewelry that celebrates life and captures the true essence of who you are.

I love creating art that reaches you on a soulful level.

And, I love connecting with people, my clients, my students and other creative entrepreneurs.

To celebrate being back in business for almost three years in November and honoring the amazing ladies who keep each other focused, I’ve invited them to a private four day retreat weekend at the end of July. I was able to meet many of them in NYC last September at an event hosted by Flourish & Thrive Academy. I knew then, when we met, we were immediate family, and this retreat was inevitable.

This invitational retreat will be somewhat structured with four mini round robin style jewelry workshops, yoga, hikes around the mountain, lots of good food and conversation and maybe a biz strategy session or two intertwined.

The goal is to inspire, create stronger connections, share ideas, learn from each other, relax and recharge our batteries as we enter the holiday season.

Retreat Weekend at Studio 12

So, do I feel alone working by myself in my studio while doing all of the tasks required to run a business? Sometimes. Then I remember the great fortune of having an awesome family of like-minded creative entrepreneurs who are more than happy to share their experiences and know-how at anytime and about anything.

Do I still feel overwhelmed every once in a while? Of course! And, that’s okay. It's only natural as a creative and small biz owner. But knowing when I get stuck or feel like there’s so much to do, I have an amazing creative family who is there to help me break it down into bite size pieces so eventually, like the turtle, I will get to where I need to go in good time to reach my goals and beyond.

Are you feeling alone or overwhelmed in your own biz, feel free to reach out, I'm happy to chat. I also highly recommend finding another like-minded person or group of people in your field to help lift you up and keep you accountable when you need it and visa versa! I wouldn't be writing this today if it wasn't for my fellow designers!

Sarah—you are such an inspiration and I am so grateful to know you!

I can definitely relate to feeling overwhelmed at times—relaunching my career at age 45…we have to all stick together and supporting one another. And you are such a shining example of what that means!

Congratulations on your hard work and well-deserved successes!!
